Knowledge Society and Social Inclusion Unit
- The Knowledge Society and Social Inclusion Unit carries out action-research activities aimed at studying and experimenting ICT-enabled learning solutions as a means to support and promote learning processes of disadvantaged social groups and training paths of trainers.

Formative Design and Evaluation Unit
- The Formative Design and Evaluation Unit carries out research activities and technical assistance in the following three areas: design, implementation and evaluation of open and distance learning and elearning systems; quality and certification of learning materials used in distance learning and elearning systems; transferability of learning materials used in distance learning and elearning systems taking on principles of transculturality.

Observatory Unit
- The Observatory Unit's mission consists in analysing the innovation elements in education and training systems, with particular focus on public policies and private undertakings (at national and international level), on market trends, and on innovative practices in research, with the aim of designing evolutionary scenarios in the fields of training and education.

- The Support to Innovation and Policy Assessment Unit carries out research activities mainly focused on the role of training and education as factors of innovation and growth at individual (micro), organisational (meso), and institutional (macro) levels.
