Formative Design and Evaluation Unit
The Formative Design and Evaluation Unit carries out research activities and technical assistance in the following three areas: design, implementation and evaluation of open and distance learning and elearning systems; quality and certification of learning materials used in distance learning and elearning systems; transferability of learning materials used in distance learning and elearning systems taking on principles of transculturality.
In particular, the following projects deserve special attention:
- TUTOR-RING - Tutors For European Sandwich Course Training (2004-2006), falls under the Leonardo da Vinci programme. Its aim is to contribute to the development of transnational sandwich course vocational training, which constitutes one of the main objectives of the European policy concerning vocational training. TUTOR-RING, therefore, answers the needs of extra specific training of the educators and in-company tutors taking part in transnational sandwich courses. Website: http://www.tutor-ring.org
- eTTNET - Training of Trainers Network for eLearning (2002-2004), project co-funded by DG Education and Culture within the eLearning Action Plan, aims at facilitating the adoption of eLearning in education and training systems in Europe. This initiative confers continuity to the work that Isfol and Cedefop have undertaken in the field of Teachers and Trainers professionalisation. The main objectives of eTTnet are: improving the quality of training systems for teachers and trainers by using new technologies and providing an important contribution to the professional development of European teachers and trainers in terms of the competencies needed to design and implement e-learning systems. - Seequel - Sustainable Environment for the Evaluation of Quality in e-Learning (2002-2004), project co-funded by DG Education and Culture within the eLearning Action Plan, aims at creating a discussion forum where interested actors can present and discuss the different approaches to quality in elearning. In the framework of this initiative, SCIENTER has animated discussion fora on quality assessment, evaluation and conformance practice; cases of "good practice" and design guidelines; quality assurance frameworks (with criteria and standards). - Seel - Supporting Excellence in elearning (2003-2004), project co-funded by DG Education and Culture within the eLearning Action Plan, aims at analysing Quality issues developed within public policies on elearning and innovation, with special focus on the regional and local dimensions. Sceinter has developed a benchmarking system on the quality of elearning at regional level. Website: http://www.eife-l.org/projects/seel/
- Valnet - Validation Network (2001-2003), developed methodologies and tools for validating ICT applications within the school systems at European level.
- Models for trainers' distance training (2001), project funded by the Italian agency for training of the Ministry of labour, carried out a field research on the open and distance learning experiences at national, European and extra-European levels.
- Delphi - Development of Educational Links and Professional and Higher Education Initiatives (1999-2001), project co-funded by the European Commission within the TACIS programme, was one of the major initiatives of the European Commission in the Russian Federation, supporting the modernisation and further development of the Russian education and training systems.
- Multipalio (1997-1999), project co-funded by the European Commission within the Leonardo da Vinci programme, defined European standards for the design, delivery, marketing and evaluation of open and distance learning for the distance training of teachers, trainers and companies' managers. Training modules were developed for the addressed target groups. Website: http://www.multipalio.odl.org/
- Caliber-Net - Quality in open and distance learning in Europe (1996-1998), project co-funded by the European Commission within the Socrates programme, identified system criteria for the recognition of competences and learning credits acquired through open and distance learning pathways.
- Trends - Training Educators through networks and Distributed Systems (1996-1998), project co-funded by the European Commission within the Telematics Applications programme, developed applied research activities with the participation of six ministries of education (in Italy, France, United Kingdom, Greece, Portugal and Spain).
- Menon (1996-1999), project co-funded by the European Commission within the 4th Framework Programme, developed research outcomes and assistance services for policy makers, institutional actors, industry and other subjects on the themes related to open and distance learning and elearning within education and training systems. At the end of the project lifecycle, the Consortium partners created a European Economic Interest Group (EEIG MENON Network).
- HUMANITIES (1994-1999), project co-funded by the European Commission within the Joint Action Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci and Youth, developed and thoroughly tested open and distance learning methodologies and solutions to support students' virtual mobility across European universities.
- CERFAD - Commissione regionale per la Certificazione e la catalogazione dei materiali didattici per la formazione a distanza, is the Emilia Romagna region's Commission for the certification of learning materials to be used in open and distance learning and elearning systems. SCIENTER coordinates the activities. Website: http://www.regione.emilia-romagna.it/cerfad/
- INTERFOC - Training by Internet for Enterprises' Occasional Trainers (1997-1999) sponsored by the European Community Leonardo Da Vinci programme, aims at preparing occasional in-house trainers to take part in open, multimedia and distance training courses, thanks to a training tool available on the Internet and Intranet. In order to achieve this objective, INTERFOC intends to enable occasional in-house trainers to better master the crucial competences of a trainer for adults, help them while preparing their training sessions, in front of a group, in individualised training, in distance training allow them to communicate through ICTs (electronic mail or virtual fora) with their trainers (or tutors) and other occasional trainers (in Europe and world-wide).
